The blue European Health Insurance Card

If you need medical treatment during travels in the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein (EEA), or Switzerland you will have to use the blue European Health Insurance Card. You can read more about how to order the blue European Health Insurance Card.

Who can order a European Health Insurance Card in Denmark

EU citizens who are covered by the Danish health insurance can order the card for free online. To order the card, you will have to use your personal “Nem-ID” login. If you, in the case of special circumstances, are not able to order the blue card online, you must contact the registration office “Folkeregisteret”, at your local Citizen Service Center.

Other citizens

If you do not have a Danish citizenship or a citizenship of another member state of the EU, an EEA country or Switzerland, please be aware that from August 1, 2014, the Danish public coverage of expenses for medical treatment during a holiday in another Nordic country will change. You might not be entitled to any public coverage of expenses for medical treatment during travel in other EU/EEA countries or Switzerland except the Nordic countries.

How can you order the blue European Health Insurance Card?
