Conditions for interns as EU citizens
Agricultural interns from EU / EEA countries are covered by the rules on the free movement of workers. In order to be covered by the intern concept, the purpose of the internship must be to supplement an education started or acquired in the home country, and the stay must have a professional and temporal connection to this education. If the intern participates in a school stay in accordance with the Vocational Education Act (VET), the farmer must have an internship approval. For other EU intern, approval is not required.
In the case of an internship where the foreign employee participates in school stays in accordance with the Vocational Education Act (VET), the intern must have a salary that is at least the salary stipulated by collective agreement within the field of education. In the field of agriculture, this means that the Agricultural Agreement between 3F and GLS-A applies.
If the intern does not participate in a school stay and the farmer is covered by an agreement, the agreement must be followed. This may be the Agricultural Agreement between 3F and GLS-A or an agreement between Det Faglige Hus and KA for agriculture.
